Genre conventions
Genre conventions
The genre/sub genre that my magazine fits into (inside stories/gossip) will mean that it will make the reader a part of the stories. For example, “can YOU believe this!?” This involvement will make the almost amateur magazine seem more like a real life, interesting gossip magazine.
This will allow the magazine to fit into a target audience who are interested in gossip related issues and inside stories. The magazine shall have a cover containing an initial suggestive image which shall catch the attention of gossip interested readers, rather like a celebrity gossip magazine.
Semiotics: Images and Title
Semiotics: Images
The images that I will include in and on my magazine will have semiotics suggesting humour and interesting information. For example, there may be a picture that implies something, but the audience needs to read to find out what. These semiotics suggest that the magazine is full of more interesting information.
A logo included on the cover has semiotics suggesting that the magazine is involved with school topics and is not too informal, which would deter some readers and maybe even parents who keep track of what their children are reading.
Semiotics: Title
The title for my magazine shall imply that the contents are informal enough to have fun reading while also being relative to school topics. The title shall also be suggestive that the stories are interesting and may contain content that without reading the magazine would go amiss.
The name cannot be too serious for my youth target audience but also not too playful to make the audience feel it is not suitable for their age group.
Audience for magazine
Audience
My magazine, being a middle school/high school orientated magazine, shall be aimed at youths between the ages of approximately 12 and 17 and aimed at both sexes. The type of reader could range from someone trying to find out the latest updates relating to their school to someone curious of a certain happening within their education. The magazine shall be informal but informative, to appeal to a larger variety of readers.
There is no specific background that the student will have to be from for them to read this magazine, but the school it is based around will be a middle class school hence the C2,D,E class rating. The contents of the magazine shall not be based too much around a certain age group emphasising the variety of readers further.
Colour scheme idea
This is a basic idea of what my colour scheme will be like. I feel it is appropriate due to its relation to the name of the magazine (‘Blayzer’) which has semiotics relating to fire and hot colours.
The more bold of the hot/red colours will be used to background the main writing/image backgrounds which will be white. I chose this as it will allow the writing and main topics to stand out.
